On 15 September, we were contacted by Dr. Siti Fathimah Abbas, a retired Radiologist who spends her time helping cancer patients at a hospice care in Melaka. She is also active in helping multi-racial poor communities in Melaka.
Dr. Siti submitted a list of 100 families coming from – Ayer Keroh, Alor Gajah, Bandar Hilir, Jasin, Umbai and various villages. Most of them are cancer patients, single mothers and families who have lost mothers, fathers and siblings due to COVID-19. There are also those who used to run food stalls and had jobs at some of the tourist spots in Melaka but have since lost those jobs.
Together with Dr. Siti and her volunteers, we contributed food packs valued at RM50 each to the 100 families – the food packs comprised of rice, cooking oil, sugar, flour, bihun, sardines, eggs, onions and potatoes.
The project was funded by Hong Leong Foundation. Thank you to Hong Leong Foundation for the support!
