On Saturday 17th June, FFS started the second prong of our sustainability effort aimed at assisting B40 communities improve their lives. This is a one year program targeted at 75 B40 families in the Project Perumahan Awam Desa Rejang in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur. The first part of the program which we launched on June 11th 2023 involves giving food aid twice a month for the 75 families.

The tuition part of our sustainability goal involves about 40 primary school-aged children of the 75 families in a fun learning environment every Saturday morning from 10 am to 1pm. The first session was spent getting to know the children and assessing their academic levels so we can target the lessons appropriately. It was wonderful to see their eagerness to learn and we are grateful for the passion and enthusiasm shown by all who were involved that first day – the parents, the Desa Rejang Residents Committee led by Puan Suria and her team, the volunteer tutors from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia next door led by Ms Athira and her team, FFS members and friends. Special thanks to Ms Meg Richy of Meg Richy Consultancy. She is an expert in motivational behaviour for young people and she gave invaluable support through activities aimed at motivating the children and developing a positive mindset – something extremely important in today’s world especially amongst children in lower income communities to instil in them the spirit of “We Can”.

We are also grateful to Dr Malar and her team at BAC Education for their guidance on the assessments as well as setting the appropriate curriculum and syllabus for the children. Above all, the support of our various donors and sponsors encourages us in our work with the community.

FFS gave the children a break-time meal of nasi lemak and a drink. We also gave away school bags and stationery items courtesy of the Ronald McDonald House Charities (Ronald McDonald House Charities Malaysia) Back to School program.
