The LGBT community is one that most people look at with suspicion, and sometimes disdain. It is one of those communities that is really at the bottom end when it comes to attracting support, mostly because of the stigma attached to the activities of this community. Many are undocumented individuals – and it is probably the only community whose name list specifies not 2, but 3 gender groups. But what most people do not know is that this community consists of a large variety of disadvantaged people and not all are sex-workers. In their midst are single mothers struggling to feed their children – some of them worked as house cleaners but have since lost their jobs during the MCO and are struggling to get by.

An NGO established in 2013 called Pertubuhan Kesihatan dan Kebajikan Umum Malaysia (PKKUM) provides a safe haven for this community – people in need regardless of their socio-economic background and includes the homeless, children at risk, single mothers, women at risk, men at risk, transgenders, people living with HIV, drug dependent individuals and a whole gamut of social afflictions at their centre in Jalan Raja Laut. Theirs is indeed a sad situation.

PKKUM Founder, Elisha Khor reached out to Free Food Society to request food aid for 155 people at their community centre in Jalan Raja Laut, KL. As an organisation whose only objective is to provide food aid to those in need regardless of colour, creed or nationality, FFS responded to the request and delivered 155good packs. This was the second time FFS provided food aid to this community. We know that providing food aid to this community is a temporary reprieve for them and in highlighting this story on our page we hope that other organisations will come in to lend a helping hand.

The community can be contacted through their founder Elisha Khor at 016-684 3822.
