16th Dec – Free Food Society sponsored & delivered 50 food packs to Orang Asli Settlement Kg. Changkat Bintang in Slim River. This project was organised by UPLIFT, the CSR arm under Brickfields Asia College.
Tok Batin Hassan, leader of the Orang Asli community was at hand to receive the food packs from UPLIFT Volunteers Avinash and his team and also assist us in the overall distribution.
The villagers of Kg. Changkat Bintang are mostly rubber tappers, fishermen and factory workers. They earn between RM 500.00 – RM 1,500 per month and basic necessities such as food items, paying their utility bills, transport for the school children, medical aid and basic household expenses has always been a challenge due to their meagre incomes. There are 46 families with 41 children in this village, ages ranging from 6 months to 89 years old. They belong to the Semai Asli Group.
The Orang Asli community expressed their heartfelt gratitude and utmost appreciation to us and UPLIFT for sponsoring the food packs and transporting them all the way from PJ to Slim River.
In the words of the Community Mobiliser, Puan Marissa, “Keluarga di Changkat Bintang mengucapkan terima kasih kepada pihak Free Food Society Dan UPLIFT atas sumbangan barang kering. Dengan sumbangan tersebut, dapat la membantu di musim hujan ini.”
Thank you to our sponsors, donors and organiser for making this event happens.
