17 June marked the launch of our tuition program as part of our ‘Bantuan Makanan dan Tuisyen’ project, a sustainable community project at Desa Rejang.
The smiling faces of the students tell it all. They enjoyed the tuition so much that they wanted to continue coming. That alone is our measure of success. The purpose of this tuition is to instill in these children the love and desire for learning and build their self esteem. What we found during our interviews at PPR Desa Rejang is that so many children are not able to read even at the age of 7 or 8! And many don’t even attend school because they feel inferior and intimidated being so behind.
Thank you to our volunteer tutors, Ms Athira, Sereena Shahaya, and others from UTM and also to Meg Richy Consultancy as well as Brickfields Asia College (BAC) for helping us with this. Good job everyone! Special thanks to McDonalds Ronald McDonald House Charities Malaysia for sponsoring the school bags too.
